Hi, I'm Xavier.

And I like to tell stories.

My work is focused on food, lifestyle, portraiure and documentary.

I was born in Mexico City in 1982. A wild but aesthetically pleasant city dominated by art and culture on every corner. Appart from going to school and playing baseball, there is where I took my very first pictures.

In 1999 I moved to Barcelona, where my father is from. And was introduced to a different city equally beautiful and rich in culture and food!

I went to study Food & Beverage management in 2002 and for the following decade I worked as a Sommelier in so many different places. Oaxaca, London, New York, Barcelona, Croatia and finally landing in the south-east of England at the end of 2009. In all those years I did everything, from Michelin Star to a pizza place in a bus station and the one thing that mattered the most to me on this journey was my camera and the stories I could tell through it.

Photography was my escape from the stress of a very demanding industry. I was always taking pictures of the things that interested me: architecture, design, the way people live in their cities and of course, the food in front of me. I was more commited to telling my own stories than to my job descriptions.

After what felt like a lifetime in the food industry, I decided to change careers and Brighton became my home where I work from my studio by Preston Park.

In 2012 I received my diploma on Professional Photography and decided to make photography my craft, full time job and my way of life. Since then I’ve been working on commercial assignments for independent clients as well as more artistic personal projects where I think there’s a story to tell. I usually share my client's work here on my website and my personal stories through my newsletter Hungry Eye.

Between 2017 and 2020 I taught photography at the CNM College in London. This made me realise that I learn a lot more from teaching and passing down skills so this became another passion of mine.

During the pandemic I received my diploma on Documentary Photography and this solidified the way I work with clients helping them tell their story through photography.

These days I keep working with regular as well as new clients and when I get a bit of time off I keep producing my personal projects. I also teach and mentor photographers and creatives who want to improve their skills or need a bit of help with the business side of things.

My work has won a few awards, most by luck, others by chance.

Xav.
